Canada ends all COVID-19 travel and border measures

The Canadian government has confirmed that all COVID-19 border and travel measures will end, effective October 1, 2022. Effective October 1, all travellers, regardless of citizenship, will no longer have to:

  • provide proof of vaccination — this means unvaccinated travellers can enter Canada;
  • submit public health information through the ArriveCAN app;
  • undergo pre-arrival or on-arrival COVID-19 testing;
  • carry out COVID-19-related quarantine or isolation;
  • undergo health checks for travel on air and rail;
  • wear masks on planes and trains; or
  • monitor and report if they develop signs or symptoms of COVID-19 upon arriving to Canada.

The Government of Canada decided to end COVID-19 border measures based on several factors, including modelling that indicates Canada has passed the peaks of the Omicron waves, Canada’s high rates of vaccination, lower hospitalization and death rates, availability of booster shots, rapid tests, and treatments for COVID-19.
